Thank You From The HLA Registry!

November 2014

During this Thanksgiving season, The HLA Registry at Community Blood Services would like to extend appreciation and wishes for a healthy and happy Thanksgiving to the hundreds of generous and caring people who donated lifesaving stem cells or registered to become potential stem cell donors this past year, as well as those who helped raise the funds needed to register new members to the national Please Be The Match Your Next Donation NOW!
registry.

“The HLA Registry’s community of support has enabled it to facilitate more than a thousand transplants since 1989. The 230,000 members it has added to the national registry will give thousands of patients the chance to receive the life-saving transplants they require to go on and lead longer and healthier lives,” said Kathy Young, manager of donor recruitment for The HLA Registry

Among the many patients looking for matches this year so they could have lifesaving transplants were Chris Fife and Anthony Daniels.

Chris, a 32-year-old lifetime Ringwood resident, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in August. Known to his friends as “Moose” because of his height, Chris is legend for his great sense of humor and easy-going nature. Thanks to your support and others like you, Chris, found his match and is hoping to have his transplant in December!

Anthony Daniels, a 23-year-old Ridgewood resident and Fordham University student, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in December of 2011. Anthony, who has continued his studies while undergoing cancer treatments at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City, has paid it forward by participating in numerous bone marrow drives. Anthony continues his search for a match but as a result of his selfless outreach, eight other patients have found their matches!

Please consider joining the bone marrow registry or hosting your own bone marrow drive to help patients like Chris and Anthony
