November 20, 2013

MONTVALE, NJ - The hours of operation for blood donors who want to donate at Community Blood Services donor room in Montvale are changing beginning Wednesday, November 20th.

The new hours at the donor room, located at corporate headquarters at 102 Chestnut Ridge Road (corner of Grand Avenue) in Montvale, will allow volunteer blood, platelet and plasma donors to donate two nights a week on Mondays and Wednesdays until 8 p.m. The donor room opens at 11 a.m. on those days. Donation hours for Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays will remain at 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The donor room will be closed on Monday, November 18.

Whole blood donors can make their appointments by calling 201-251-3703 or scheduling online at www.communitybloodservices.com. Donors also can donate seven days a week at the Paramus Donor Center, 970 Linwood Avenue West, or Mondays through Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Lincoln Park Donor Center, 63 Beaverbrook Road. Call or visit the website for hours at those locations.

All blood types and products are currently needed, especially O negative, the universal blood type. A and AB male plasma, used to treat patients with bleeding disorders and trauma victims, and platelets, used to treat patients diagnosed with cancer or other blood disorders, are also needed. Platelets only have a shelf life of five days so they must continuously be replenished.

Community Blood Services provides blood and blood products to more than 18 hospitals in New Jersey and New York. Whole blood donors must be 17-75 years old (16 years old with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors also receive complimentary non-fasting cholesterol and glucose health screenings at the time of their donations.
