Donate Blood at Community Blood Services & Get a Restaurant Gift Card Tuesday, May 28, 2013
Anyone who donates blood, platelets or plasma at Community Blood Services Paramus or Lincoln Park donor centers on Tuesday, May 28 will receive a complimentary gift card good at one of several restaurants as a thank you for their lifesaving donation.
The gift card is good at Outback Steakhouse, Carrabbas Italian Grill or the Bonefish Grill.
We need the help of our volunteer donors to help rebuild the blood supply following the Memorial Day weekend when many donors are out of town and unable to stop by to donate, said Karen Ferriday, community affairs director at Community Blood Services.
Donors can donate at the Paramus center, 970 Linwood Avenue West, on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. or at the Lincoln Park center, 63 Beaverbrook Road, Suite 304, on Tuesday from 12 noon to 7:30 p.m.
To make an appointment to donate, donors can call 201-251-3703 or click here. Walk-ins are also welcome but an appointment is needed to donate platelets.
All blood types are needed, especially Type O Negative, the universal blood type that can be transfused to any patient regardless of their blood type Ferriday said. She noted the blood supply usually begins dwindling starting Memorial Day weekend, and continues to drop throughout the summer months because high school blood drives, which provide about 10% of the blood supply, begin to wind down for the summer and donations at the blood centers and at corporate blood drives start declining when donors go on vacation.
Community Blood Services is a not-for-profit organization that provides blood and blood products to more than 18 hospitals in New Jersey and New York.
Whole blood donors must be 17-75 years of age (16 with parental permission) and weigh at least 110 pounds. Complimentary non-fasting cholesterol and glucose screenings are offered with every donation. |
