Community Blood Services Urgently Needs
O Negative Blood Donors!

April 2013

Community Blood Services has an urgent need for Type O negative blood donations, the universal type that can be given to all patients no matter what their blood type.

Recently, our center has had an ongoing need for Type O negative blood, with a short supply on our shelves. The supply is critically low and must be replenished immediately, said Karen Ferriday, community affairs director.

O negative blood is the universal type, meaning any patient can receive it regardless of the patients own blood type. Even though only 7 percent of the population has O negative blood, it is the type most in demand from hospitals for use in emergency surgeries and to help treat and save the lives of trauma patients, patients with rare antibodies and premature babies.

Call 866-228-1500 or 201-251-3703 for convenient locations and hours click here or click here to schedule your next donation appointment. Appointments are helpful but walk-ins also welcome. You can also ask about scheduling a summer blood drive with your business, organization or place of worship to help meet summer needs for all blood types, including Type O negative.

Donors must be healthy, 17-75 years old (16 years old with parental permission) and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors will receive complimentary non-fasting cholesterol and glucose screenings at the time of their donations.
