Volunteers Needed at Community Blood Services

February 2012

Community Blood Services is looking for community-minded individuals interested in volunteering at their local blood center to help save lives!

Canteen volunteers offer refreshments to volunteer blood donors who have just completed their lifesaving donations at the Paramus or Lincoln Park donor centers in New Jersey, or at the New Windsor donor center in New York. Day, evening and weekend hours are available.

"Our volunteers offer refreshments with a smile and some conversation, creating a pleasant atmosphere while monitoring the donor during post-donation," said Jeannette Trinkleback of Volunteer Services at the blood center.

Volunteer qualifications are the ability to work with people, the willingness to learn and the desire to make a valuable contribution to their community. All training is provided by the centers volunteer office.

Volunteers can be students who need community service hours, retirees who have extra time on their hands, or busy professionals who just want to make a difference, Trinkleback said.

Occasionally requests come into the volunteer office asking for volunteers to make deliveries, for clerical support, to help recruiters register bone marrow donors at community marrow drives, to help at special events and to recruit donors on the telephone. Bilingual donors are also needed at blood and marrow drives.

Anyone interested in applying as a volunteer may call Jeannette Trinkleback at 201-389-0429 or click here to email .
