Make a Difference This Veterans Day! Donate Lifesaving Blood on November 11 November 11, 2011
This Friday, November 11, you can help remember and honor our dedicated Armed Forces members and veterans by making a lifesaving blood donation
Community Blood Services and Kmart Paramus are proud to recognize all veterans and their families. Please come to the Paramus donor center on Friday November 11th and make a life saving blood donation. Receive an American Flag as our thank you for your tribute on Veterans Day
"What better way to honor our veterans, and those still serving our country, than to donate blood, platelets or plasma at your local blood center this Veterans Day?" said Karen Ferriday, community affairs director at Community Blood Services. "Its just one small way you can join in to help support the citizens of our community."
"Anyone who donates at the Paramus Donor Center on Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. will receive a thank you gift and have the heartfelt feeling of knowing they are making a difference in the life of someone else," Ferriday said.
Click here or call 201-251-3703 to make your appointment to donate. Walk-ins are welcome but an appointment is needed to donate platelets.
Currently, there is less than a two-day supply of blood on the shelves. All blood types are needed, especially O negative, and B negative, in order to meet the needs of patients at area hospitals. Platelets are needed to treat patients diagnosed with cancer or other blood disorders, while plasma can be used to treat burn and trauma victims.
Male donors with Type AB blood are also critically needed to donate plasma through an automated donation process. Plasma is needed to treat burn and trauma patients.
Community Blood Services provides blood and blood products to more than 25 hospitals in New Jersey and New York.
Whole blood donors must be 17-75 years old (16 years old with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors also receive complimentary health screenings, including non-fasting screenings for cholesterol and glucose.
Community Blood Services salutes Kmart Paramus store manager Carol Laborde and her team for donating American Flags to our donors on this special day.
