Play "Spin the Wheel" When You Donate on Friday
& Win a Thank You Gift

August 12, 2011

With less than a days supply of blood on its shelves, Community Blood Services is asking blood donors of all types to roll up their sleeves and donate tomorrow, Friday, August 12th to ensure blood is available to patients who need it at community hospitals in the week ahead.

As a thank you for taking time out of their busy schedules to donate, each volunteer donor at the Paramus Donor Center will have a chance to play Spin the Wheel and win a gift for their lifesaving donation.

The Paramus center, 970 Linwood Avenue West , will be open Friday, August 12th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There is an urgent need for additional blood donations, especially during these summer months, because many regular volunteer donors have busy summer schedules and are on vacation, and there are far fewer blood drives, said Karen Ferriday, community affairs director at Community Blood Services.

Ferriday said there is less than a one-day supply of blood on the shelves when, optimally, there should be about five days. All blood types and blood products are needed, especially O negative, as well as AB male plasma to treat trauma victims.

Call (201) 251-3703 to make an appointment or just walk in. An appointment is needed to donate platelets.

Whole blood donors must be 17-75 years old (16 years old with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds. All donors will receive health screenings with their donations, including non-fasting glucose and cholesterol screenings.
