Celebrate World Blood Donor Day
By Donating Blood Today!
Get a Fashionable Bandaid to Express Your Lifesaving Donation

June 14, 2011

Blood donors in New Jersey and New York are encouraged to help Community Blood Services celebrate World Blood Donor Day today, Tuesday, June 14 and receive a free Nexcare give Bandage by visiting one of their local donor centers.

Nexcare™ Brand and Americas Blood Centers, in partnership with local blood centers like Community Blood Services, are honoring World Blood Donor Day with the 3rd annual Nexcare give program.

In New Jersey, donors can visit the Paramus Donor Center, 970 Linwood Avenue, between noon and 7:30 or the Lincoln Park Donor Center, 63 Beaverbrook Road, Suite 304 from 1 to 6:30 p.m.

In New York, they can drop by the New Windsor Donor Center, 575 Hudson Valley Ave., Suite 206 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Donors will each receive a complimentary gas card when they donate at the Paramus, Lincoln Park or New Windsor centers as a thank you for being volunteer donors.

Many Americans may consider giving blood to be an important act of community service, however, less than 10 percent of those who can give actually donate on an annual basis. World Blood Donor Day thanks those who give and encourages others to get involved. The Nexcare give program inspires people in America with a message of hope, and helps to spread the word by distributing limited-edition Nexcare Bandages marked with the word give beginning on World Blood Donor Day and throughout the week ending on Sunday, June 19 Nexcare Brand is promoting a collection of five fashion bandages inspired by the latest runway trends and featuring the vibrant designs of chevron, plaid, gingham, zebra, and classic. The fashionable bandage collection aims to demonstrate to current and potential donors that helping to save a life is always in style.

Donors can call toll free at (866) 228-1500 to schedule an appointment or walk in. Appointments are needed to donate platelets at the New Jersey donor centers only.

World Blood Donor Day and the Nexcare give program come at an important time each year. During the summer months, the nations blood supply comes under strain due to fewer donations because of increased vacation schedules and other seasonal distractions.

Here at Community Blood Services, the need for blood donors is critical because of summer blood supply shortages, said Karen Ferriday, director of community affairs at Community Blood Services. The Nexcare give program provides a compelling way for us to raise awareness of this need, and encourage the community to join us in making a difference and helping to save lives.

Community Blood Services is a not-for-profit organization that provides blood and blood products to 25 hospitals in New Jersey and New York.
