Pump Up the Blood Supply & Get Gas Gift Card as Thank You

June 13, 14, 15, 2011

Community Blood Service urges donors to make a lifesaving blood or platelet donation at one of its donor centers in New Jersey or New York on Monday, June 13th through Wednesday, June 15th. Anyone who successfully donates on those days will receive a complimentary gas card.

All blood types are needed, especially O negative, to meet the needs of patients at area hospitals. Platelets are needed to treat patients diagnosed with cancer or other blood disorders.

In New Jersey, the Paramus donor center, located at 970 Linwood Avenue West, will be open Monday, June 13th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, June 14th from 12 noon to 7:30 p.m.; and Wednesday, June 15th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Lincoln Park donor center, located at 63 Beaverbrook Road, suite 304, will be open Tuesday, June 14th and Wednesday, June 15th from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Platelet donations can be scheduled at the New Jersey donor centers. Appointments are needed. Walk ins are welcome for whole blood donations.

In New York, the New Windsor donor center, located at 575 Hudson Valley Avenue, suite 206, will be open Tuesday, June 14th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, June 15th from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Click here or call 1-866-228-1500, to make an appointment.

There is a critical need for blood, especially during the summer months, as supplies dwindle because donors go on vacation and there are no more high school drives and fewer corporate blood drives, says Karen Ferriday, community affairs director at Community Blood Services. This promotion will allow donors to pump up our blood supplies and also help them pump up their gas tanks.

Whole blood donors must be 17-75 years old (16 years old with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds. All donors will receive a complimentary mini-physical, including non-fasting cholesterol and glucose screenings.

Community Blood Service is a not-for-profit organization that provides blood and blood products to 25 hospitals in New Jersey and New York.
