Give Blood, Get Chocolate!
Blood Donors Will Receive $20 Dip Certificate to Melting Pot Restaurant

Friday, June 10, 2011

In an effort to help rebuild the blood supply for patients in area hospitals, The Melting Pot fondue restaurant is again partnering with Community Blood Services to offer a $20 gift certificate to anyone who donates blood or platelets on Friday, June 10th at Community Blood Services Paramus donor center.

The gift certificate, which is good for $20 off per couple, is valid at the Westwood location, 250 Center Avenue, and also at Melting Pot restaurants in Darien, Connecticut and White Plains, New York. For more information on the Melting Pot you can visit www.meltingpot.com.

We are excited to offer this generous donation from The Melting Pot to our donors as our thank you for taking time out of their busy schedules to help save lives, said Karen Ferriday, community affairs director at Community Blood Services.

Donors can donate at the Paramus center, 970 Linwood Avenue, on Friday, June 10th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Click here or call 201-251-3703 to schedule an appointment to donate. Walk-ins are also welcome but an appointment is needed to donate platelets.

It is critical that we continuously replenish the blood supply to get us through the summer months ahead, Ferriday said, noting donations are already down as a result of high school drives ending for the school year, vacations starting, and end-of-the-school-year activities.

Currently, there is an urgent need for Type O negative donors, Ferriday said. Platelets are also needed to treat patients diagnosed with cancer or other blood disorders.

Community Blood Services supplies blood and blood products to treat patients in 25 hospitals in New Jersey and New York.

Donors must be in good health, 17-75 years old (16 years old with parental permission) and weigh at least 110 pounds. All donors receive complimentary health screenings, including non-fasting cholesterol and glucose screenings, at the time of their donations.
