NY Giant Pro Athletes a Big Hit At 14th Annual Golf Classic

May 2011

A less-than-perfect weather forecast did not hinder the enthusiasm of those who participated in Community Blood Services Foundations 14th Annual Play with the Greats Golf Classic event on May 16th at the Preakness Hills Country Club in Wayne, New Jersey.

Nineteen pro athletes - including former NY Giants Hall of Famer Harry Carson, Rodney Hampton, Howard Cross and Jeff Feagles - were among the many athletes who played with golfers and posed for pictures, signed autographs and shared stories about their years as members of the New York Giants. Participating in the event gave the athletes the opportunity to help support Community Blood Services and the hospitals it serves, said Brian Saxton, co-chair of the event and a former New York Giant. Many athletes who live in the area were pleased to be able to give back and support the blood center which serves the hospitals in their communities.

Many exciting contests and raffles were held as part of the annual event, along with silent and live auctions and a 50/50 Superbowl pool. Paul Tone of Spencer Savings Bank in Elmwood Park won the chance to participate in the Million Dollar Shootout.

The money raised from this years golf classic will support Community Blood Services many lifesaving programs and services.
