Congratulations to Volunteer Platelet Donor Iris Gang of Clifton, New Jersey, winner of the Apple iPAD raffle held by Community Blood Services!

The special iPAD promotion ran in July to try to combat the usual blood shortages faced by blood center severy year during the summer months. It was designed to provide an extra incentive to regular donors whose busy summer schedules may keep them from donating and to encourage new donors to make lifesaving donations.

Ms. Gang began donating in 2006 specifically for her 32-year-old son after he was diagnosed with leukemia. When she realized that people she didn�t even know were donating to help save her son�s life, she decided to become a platelet donor herself and has been a faithful platelet donor ever since. Her son has been in remission for seven years.

�Becoming a donor was one way I could say thank you back to those who had helped save my son,� Ms. Gang explained. �Hopefully, my donations can help someone else in the same way.�
