Community Blood Services and New York Renaissance Faire Partner to Save Lives August 19, 2010
Donors will receive two complimentary tickets to the New York Renaissance Faire when they donate blood on Thursday, August 19th between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Warwick Donor Center.
Community Blood Services and the New York Renaissance Faire are celebrating more than a decade of partnering together by offering complimentary tickets to the faire as a thank you to our volunteer blood donors who donate at the Warwick center, said Vernon Reed, vice president of development at Community Blood Services.
Donors can donate at the Warwick center, 20 Grand Avenue near the Mount Alverno Center, on Thursday, August 19th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Every summer for the past 11 years the Faire has generously offered tickets to those in the community who have taken time out of their busy schedules to donate blood and help save lives. Collecting enough blood during the summer to meet the needs of the patients in the hospitals we serve would be impossible without their unselfishness, Reed said.
To schedule an appointment to donate, call 845-220-2030 or schedule online at www.communitybloodservices.com. Walk-ins are welcome but an appointment is recommended.
Community Blood Services, a not-for-profit organization, supplies blood and blood products to St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, Orange Regional Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern and St. Lukes Cornwall Hospital. Reed noted that Community Blood Services must collect 250 pints of blood each day in order to meet the transfusion needs of patients at those hospitals.
Whole blood donors must be 17-75 years old (16 years old with parental permission) and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors also receive complimentary cholesterol, blood pressure, hemoglobin and glucose screenings.
Your donation of blood during these summer months, when donations are at their lowest, indeed makes you a hero. The Renaissance Faire is pleased to continue the tradition of giving to those who give blood. We are grateful to provide complimentary tickets to our faire as an added incentive for your commitment to donate during this critical time. Thank you for being heroes to the community, said Wanda Carr, assistant general manager of the New York Renaissance Faire.
