Community Blood Services’ Development Fund
Please Contribute… To Help Save Lives in Our Community!
Community Blood Services was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in August 1953 with a mission of providing safe and effective blood products to hospitals and medical centers in the New Jersey/New York region. Over the years we expanded our programs to include one of the nation’s largest bone marrow donor recruitment and management programs, The HLA Registry, and New Jersey’s only public cord blood stem cell banking program, the New Jersey Cord Blood Bank (NJCBB).
As a result of increased regulatory oversight, today’s blood supply is the safest in the world. In 2011, your community blood center provided area hospitals with over 86,000 pints of blood and nearly 9,000 units of platelets. The cost associated with the collection of these products and their testing and distribution is expensive. Your generous donation will help offset some of the expense associated with our Blood Services program.
The HLA Registry recruits potential bone marrow donors and works with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP/Be the Match) and transplant centers throughout the world to coordinate the collection and transportation of stem cells collected from its donors. These stem cells are used in the treatment of leukemia, genetic diseases, and a host of hematologic disorders that can be cured with bone marrow transplants. The cost of recruiting donors and testing them in order for the transplant centers to search our database for possible matches with their patients is expensive. Your generous donation will help to offset some of the expense we incur in fulfilling The HLA Registry’s mission.
In the mid ‘80s, it was discovered that the blood remaining in the placenta and umbilical cord after the birth of a baby is a rich source of transplantable stem cells. The New Jersey Cord Blood Bank’s mission is to collect these precious cells and make them available to transplant centers throughout the world should they match a patient in need of a bone marrow transplant. The collection and isolation of the stem cells, testing the mother and child’s blood to insure the stem cells are safe, and storage of the cells in low temperature freezers is, once again, expensive but necessary. Your generous donation will help to offset some of the expense associated with the New Jersey Cord Blood Bank.
Please consider making a monetary donation to help offset the expenses we incur in making these programs available to the community we serve. Your Tax-Deductible Donation can be designated for the following:
