Eleanor's Story

When she was just 15 years old, Eleanor Hahn experienced sudden, inexplicable pain in her upper left arm and received startling news that would turn her familys life upside down: Eleanor had bone cancer. During the next eight months, Eleanor underwent an eight-hour surgery on her arm, followed by chemotherapy treatments and blood transfusions to keep her strong. As a result, Eleanors mom, Lisa, became an ardent advocate of the importance of blood donation. Today Eleanors mom donates platelets, holds blood drives at her church for other patients like Eleanor and, as a member of Community Blood Services Board of Trustees, spreads the word about how being a blood donor can make a difference in someones life. And Eleanor has been cancer free for five years and is beginning her senior year in college!
